Fire Abatement Trimming (Parkland)

May 12, 2022, Oakridge, the city’s fire abatement contractor, stopped work LINK (time 3:59:10). This year, the City began efforts to replace Oakridge LINK.

July 25, 2023: The Council will contract with Bay Area Tree Specialists to complete the work by Oct 1, 2023. LINK.

Landscape Trimming (medians & beautification)

Oct 12, 2021: Stay Green struggled to deliver contracted services. Mayor Roos took the leadership role to address performance issues LINK. Subsequent meetings continued to address unresolved performance concerns:

City Obligations:

County Fire requires the city to provide a 200’ defensible barrier from structures to protect homes LINK. The city plans to only provide 170’ LINK from property lines. If you have dangerous uncut growth on public land within 200’ of your home, contact the city. Proposed Solution: To avoid liability and meet minimum standards, the full 200’ barrier should be contracted.

Funds are Available for Fire Safety:

$3,442,945 is available for new appropriations LINK Page 3, Budget for fiscal year beginning 7/1/23.

State Farm and Allstate no longer issue new fire policies for CA homes

Weed Whackers are labor intensive and costly

Proposed Solution: Tractors are a cost effective alternative to labor intensive handhelds

Tractors are available for slopes and thick brush that can reduce costs, abate regrowth and expedite completion over manually operated weed-whackers. Examples: Ventrac, John Deere

Bay Boys Update

The California Supreme Court denied PVE’s requested review of the Appellate Court’s ruling LINK.

The decision upholds the Appellate Court’s ruling finding sufficient evidence to allow a trial.

TIPs: Stop New Burglary Schemes

BURGLARY THWARTED ! Report paper license plates

June 29th, Lunada Bay: While responding to a resident’s call to report a suspicious vehicle with paper covered its license plates, police stopped a residential burglary in progress and arrested four people LINK.

NEVER leave your garage door opener in a car outside

July 14th, Malaga Cove: Thieves gained access to a garage to steal a car with keys inside. They broke into a car outside to get the garage door opener to open the garage.
Thankfully, the thieves did not to enter the home from the garage.

Partially. In July 2023, the PVE Foundation website added links with partial IRS filings. CM McGowan withheld Schedule B, listing the donors.
